Seven years ago, I took my first steps into the world of accountancy at the KPMG office in Hasselt, fresh out of university. I was looking for a place where I could learn, grow, and be challenged. I remember the excitement (and nerves) of joining such a big firm, without any prior experience, but from day one, I felt genuinely welcomed. In my early days, my colleagues took the time to show me around, answer my endless questions, and make sure I felt at home right away.

I started out as a junior, taking on the typical standard tasks that help build a strong foundation through bookkeeping, file preparation and, above all, learning a lot. Everything was new, both the job content and working life. Now, a few years later, I’ve grown into a management role. It’s special to realize that I’m now reviewing the work of juniors who are exactly where I once started myself. I find it very rewarding to share my knowledge and experience, guide them, and watch them grow. Seeing them become more confident, independent, and taking steps forward truly energizes me. Stepping into a coaching role has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

The atmosphere in our Hasselt office also plays a key role in everyone’s growth. It’s accessible, collegial, and pleasant. There’s always someone willing to help or crack a joke. Moreover, we often collaborate with the tax team in our office on specific fiscal matters, and we can always turn to our law firm, KPMG Law, for legal questions. What I also really appreciate about working at KPMG Hasselt are the enjoyable lunch breaks. We regularly go out together to have lunch nearby or simply to grab a drink and chat. Every quarter, an office drink is organized at a different external location, bringing the whole office together in a relaxed setting. These moments outside the office lead to great conversations, lots of laughter, and allow us to get to know each other in a different way. They truly strengthen our team spirit. These traditions and moments of teamwork make working at KPMG Hasselt extra special.

What also motivates me is the real impact we have on our clients, whether we’re working from the office or on-site. I love the variety and the sense of ownership I’ve developed over my projects and client relationships. I also really value the autonomy I’m given and the possibility to sometimes work from home. This flexibility ensures a great work-life balance, which has become even more important to me since becoming a mom. Being able to pick up my little daughter from daycare on time, or continue working from home when she’s ill, gives me peace of mind. The trust and freedom I receive make me enjoy my job even more and allow me to dedicate myself to it with even greater enthusiasm.

For me, working at KPMG Hasselt means that I get the best of both worlds. On the one hand, I’m part of a cozy office where everyone knows each other and the atmosphere is warm and personal. The office isn’t too big, so I never feel lost, and there’s always room for a chat or a joke. On the other hand, I’m part of the large KPMG family across Belgium, benefiting from all the advantages: knowledge, opportunities, and the strength of an international network, while still enjoying the charm and close connection of a local team. That combination truly makes working in Hasselt unique for me.

If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, be challenged, and genuinely feel at home, KPMG Accountancy Hasselt is the right and logical choice. I am proud to be part of this warm team, and I can honestly say that I truly feel like I belong here.
