      Let’s start with the basics. What does Hélène do on a daily basis?
       

      After completing my studies in Business Engineering in Management of Information Systems, I embarked with a clear vision: to assist companies in overcoming their IT challenges and addressing their needs to ensure they are well-equipped for the future. I found a great fit at KPMG, where I'm part of the Digital Advisory team. We focus on implementing new IT systems like ERP, CRM, and Cloud & Modern Workplaces.

      Working as a Functional Consultant for Microsoft D365 is a dynamic and rewarding experience where no two days are alike, which is what makes it so enjoyable. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to engage with stakeholders to deeply understand their business needs. 

      What does a typical project look like?
       

      Once the requirements for a project have been gathered, they need to be translated into either technical requirements that can be executed by developers or that need to be configured in the system. Then, I test the newly configured functionalities and analyze what we expect the system to do versus what it actually does. If the test fails, I either reconfigure the system or record a bug. Additionally, as a system expert, I'm always on hand to support my colleagues. Whether it's answering questions, providing on-the-spot training for new functionalities, or planning fixed training sessions.

      Which tools and technologies does Hélène get to use the most?
       

      In terms of tools and technologies, I mostly work with Microsoft D365. Microsoft DevOps is also essential, assisting in project tracking, as well as some basic tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

      And now, what you came for – why should anyone choose consulting over an in-house position?
       

      When I started my career search, I asked myself whether I should start with an in-house position or in consultancy. After careful consideration, I decided to go into consultancy for several reasons.

      Firstly, the opportunity to work on multiple projects makes my experience more diverse and enriching. Consulting allows for exposure to various implementations, broadening my skills and perspectives. Besides, working for a renowned company like KPMG gives me access to so many learning opportunities in different fields.

      Secondly, the dynamic nature of the consultancy ensures constant interaction with new people while maintaining a close-knit team environment. Moving from one project to the next not only allows me to meet new clients, but also to build relationships with different colleagues.

      Before joining KPMG, I had these typical perceptions of big consulting companies: distant managers, heavy workload, and feeling like you are just a number. But working at KPMG proved me wrong: everyone is so approachable and friendly. At KPMG, you'll never be bored. With a manageable workload and a supportive team, you'll always feel engaged and motivated. It's a culture based on mutual success and continuous learning. As a junior, I even found that although external competition is significant, it doesn’t hold me back. When I'm working on proposals, I know that other companies are competing for the same projects. This pushes me to give my best, contributing to our collective success by winning projects.

      Closing time, let’s end with a fun anecdote!
       

      I would like to finish with an unforgettable memory from work, which was decorating the Christmas tree at the Antwerp office. We all came together and brought our own decorations, including a special poem. Surprisingly, three months later, the tree is still standing, now transformed into an Easter tree. It's moments like these that remind me of the fun and unity we share at work, creating lasting memories.
