Thomas Gronenwald is a Partner for Industrial Cyber Security (OT, IoT, IIoT) at KPMG Germany and is one of the leading experts for OT and ICS security in the industrial environment. He has been advising companies ranging from SMEs to major international corporations for over 20 years and has been responsible for well over 250 large, international cyber security projects. His core competence lies in the economic planning and management of complex OT transformation programmes - both in brownfield and greenfield environments. He develops risk-based security strategies, prioritises investments in line with business-critical risks and strikes a balance between cost efficiency, sustainable cost reduction and secure, stable production.
In doing so, he makes targeted use of innovative technologies and draws on a robust partner network of leading solution providers. Through his close collaboration with specialist departments, he masters the mediation between top management, cyber security teams and the traditional engineering world – in particular automation, production and maintenance – and creates a common understanding of risks, priorities and practicable implementation paths.
Thomas Gronenwald supports board members and management teams in pragmatically operationalising regulatory requirements such as NIS2 and IEC 62443 and transforming cyber risks into measurable resilience, operational stability and long-term competitiveness.
He is the author of specialist books, a sought-after speaker at national and international specialist events and the initiator and founder of Germany-wide OT Cyber Security Roundtable formats.
