Dr Benedikt Herles is Chief Economist at KPMG in Germany. He advises companies and senior executives on macroeconomic and geopolitical developments, with a particular focus on geoeconomics, industrial policy and technological transformation.
He leads KPMG in Germany’s Geopolitics & Defence Competence Centre and heads the Africa country practice. In these roles, he supports clients in developing global diversification and resilience strategies.
Dr Benedikt Herles has more than 15 years of experience in economic analysis, strategy consulting and investments. Prior to joining KPMG, he was the founding Managing Director of the Viessmann Group’s Corporate Venture Capital fund, where he led early-stage investments in industrial technologies and dual-use applications in Europe. He began his career at a leading international strategy consultancy.
He is a regular commentator in leading media outlets and a sought-after speaker at international conferences. He has authored two non-fiction books on global transformation and innovation, as well as numerous articles.
In 2020, he was named one of Germany’s “Top 40 under 40” (management category) by the business magazine CAPITAL.
