Implementing new packaging requirements in a legally compliant manner
With the introduction of the European Packaging Regulation (PPWR), companies had to redefine their future obligations throughout the value chain. For the client, it was necessary to clarify which regulatory roles and responsibilities arise from the PPWR and how the new requirements regarding registration, reporting and packaging compliance can be implemented. In addition, an existing tax assessment notice running into millions needed to be assessed from a legal perspective.
Legal expertise meets digital solutions
KPMG Law first analysed the initial regulatory landscape, assessed the company’s obligations under the new PPWR and coordinated key issues with the European Commission and the Central Packaging Register. At the same time, the team lodged an appeal against an existing levy notice and secured its complete revocation. In addition, an AI-based platform was implemented which collects and processes relevant data and supports the preparation of declarations of conformity and technical documentation.

Furthermore, the company gained clarity on its future obligations under the PPWR and was able to implement new requirements in a legally compliant manner. This lays the foundation for future regulatory requirements, such as those relating to the recyclability of packaging from 2030 onwards.
