KPMG is the oldest audit firm in Finland. We have existed as long as the Finnish auditing profession.
KPMG in Finland was established in 1926 when K.A. Widenius, Edvin Sederholm, and Juho Someri founded an audit firm in Helsinki bearing their names. The founders were key figures in Finnish auditing at the time.
Our company has operated as a limited liability company since 1942 and as a KHT community since 1980. In 1992, our company's name changed to KPMG Wideri Oy Ab and in January 2005, we registered our current trade name, KPMG Oy Ab.
We joined the international KMG audit firm network in 1981, which evolved into the global KPMG network in 1987.
The international KPMG network in its current form originated in 1987 when two firms and their member companies merged their operations. These firms were Peat Marwick International (PMI) and Klynveld Main Goerdeler (KMG).
The KPMG name is derived from the names of the original firms' founders:
K - Klynveld: Piet Klynveld founded the audit firm Klynveld Kraayenhof & Co. in Amsterdam in 1917.
P - Peat: William Barclay Peat founded the audit firm William Barclay Peat & Co. in London in 1870.
M - Marwick: James Marwick founded the audit firm Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in New York in 1897.
G - Goerdeler: Dr. Reinhard Goerdeler served for many years as the chief executive of the German Treuhand-Gesellschaft and later as the chief executive of KPMG. He laid important groundwork that led to the formation of KMG.
