Turbine design is a highly complex and time-intensive process involving thousands of engineering parameters and deliverables. Despite having extensive historical design data from over 1500 turbines, organisations often struggle to leverage it effectively for faster decision-making.
KPMG in India developed an AI-powered turbine design recommendation engine to automate engineering workflows, accelerate design cycles, and improve efficiency outcomes.
Turbine engineering involves multiple interconnected systems, from steam paths to generators and auxiliary components, leading to high operational complexity.
Each new order triggered a fresh engineering cycle, limiting productivity and increasing time-to-market. Manual design processes and document creation resulted in long turnaround times, particularly in responding to RFPs.
KPMG in India introduced AI-led optimisation to automate turbine design and engineering workflows.
The solution used a swarm intelligence-based algorithm (inspired by bee foraging behaviour) to efficiently explore a massive design search space while ensuring thermal feasibility and optimal efficiency.
In parallel, engineering workflows were standardised and automated using a rule engine to generate product specifications, CAD drawings, and documentation.
The AI-enabled system significantly transformed engineering productivity and responsiveness:
KPMG in India enables organisations to embed AI into core engineering processes, unlocking speed, precision, and scalability. By combining advanced optimisation algorithms with domain expertise, we transform complex design workflows into automated, intelligent systems.
