Thong’s professional experience spans 30 years, specializing in audit and covers various industries including petro-chemical, real estate, natural resources, plantation, industrial products, manufacturing and trading. He was involved in many exercises for the issuance of debt and equity instruments.
During his secondment to KPMG International’s Global Services Center in 2003, he was the project manager for Monetary Unit Sampling and Computer Assisted Audit Techniques and was also actively involved in the development of the KPMG Audit Methodology.
In 2008, Thong led KPMG’s Professional Practice Department in Malaysia, a resource center dealing with complex and emerging accounting and auditing issues. He also regularly conducts International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) courses and was a committee member of the MIA Auditing and Assurance Standards Board of Malaysia.
Thong is well versed with local regulations and international standards, as he sits in various working groups at the MASB and has represented MIA and MICPA in various discussion groups between the accounting profession and the regulators to deal with contentious and implementation issues.
In 2019, he was appointed into the firm’s Executive Committee (EXCO) and assumed the Head of Markets role to drive growth through the consistent delivery of the KPMG brand promise, bringing client issues and a market perspective to the deployment of KPMG's solutions, and creating go-to-market approaches that are compelling and competitive.
