According to the recent news reported in the media, the Ministry of Finance (“MOF”) has informed that the proposed expansion of scope for Service Tax and review of Sales Tax rates for specific goods initially scheduled to be effective 1 May 2025 will be deferred to a later date. The MOF has further shared that the deferment is to refine the proposed amendments and to ensure a smooth implementation.
Whilst the new implementation date was not specified, it was reported that according to the Director General of Customs, the relevant amendment legislations are expected to be gazetted on 1 June 2025.
