As a leading technology company dedicated to the travel industry, Amadeus operates through around 130 companies, serving customers in over 190 jurisdictions — a scale that made tax compliance increasingly complex. With over 70 tax compliance providers and little supporting technology, the tax team was spending too much time on manual follow-up and too little on higher-value work. Working with KPMG in Spain and leveraging the KPMG Tax Reimagined approach, Amadeus set out to move to a single tax compliance provider model, underpinned by new technology and a strong global network, to gain real-time visibility, strengthen control and make the tax function more agile and aligned to the business

Fragmented tax model strained control and capacity
Over time, the tax compliance model at Amadeus had become highly fragmented. Without technology to monitor or control workflows, the tax team employed a manual process of emails to confirm whether filings such as VAT returns had been submitted on time. This complexity was stealing time from day-to-day strategic tax work and increasing the risk of inconsistency and missed issues. With the Tax function sitting under Legal and core tax compliance under Finance, gaining a single view of risk and performance was challenging. Senior leadership recognized the need to transform, seeking more efficiency, better risk mitigation and stronger control over global tax compliance.
KPMG Tax Reimagined unifies providers and processes globally
Amadeus engaged KPMG in Spain to deploy the Tax Reimagined approach and move to a single global tax compliance provider model. KPMG brought three pillars that were critical for Amadeus. First, proven experience: KPMG had already led similar programs for more than 120 companies, giving confidence that they could handle the scale and complexity of Amadeus’s structure. Second, flexibility: KPMG adapted to changing business needs, including workload peaks and frequent adjustments as entities were added or removed from scope. Third, deep technical knowledge. Amadeus needed one provider that truly understood its business while drawing on specialist capabilities in any jurisdiction. Together, the teams introduced new interfacing technology and a common operating model, aligning Tax and Finance and managing change across stakeholders in 82 jurisdictions.
Unified tax function gains agility, control and trust
The collaboration with KPMG in Spain transformed how Amadeus manages tax compliance. Where the team once relied on emails to track local filings, they now use technology and interfacing to monitor tax compliance daily, gaining real-time visibility and significantly stronger control. Consolidating more than 70 providers into a single, knowledgeable provider has improved consistency, simplified coordination and reduced risk. The Tax function is becoming more agile and efficient, which is enabling faster, more informed responses to technical issues. Alignment between Tax and Finance has deepened, fostering a more cooperative relationship and a common approach across 82 jurisdictions. The tax team can now dedicate more effort to strategic business support and creating value for the organization.
