KPMG Private Enterprise crowns Rhinoflux as the 2025 Global Tech Innovator competition winner

      Japan’s Rhinoflux has taken home the top prize for its visionary capability of unlocking biomass to create clean energy economically in the 2025 KPMG Private Enterprise Global Tech Innovator competition.

      On November 12th, 21 national winners made their final pitches to four industry-leading judges to select the 2025 KPMG Global Tech Innovator winner. Before a sizeable Web Summit audience in Lisbon, Portugal, KPMG Private Enterprise announced that Japan and Rhinoflux has been named the 2025 Global Tech Innovator winner for its unique ability to unlock biomass to create clean energy at a reduced cost.

      With a new demonstration plant being commissioned in Hamburg and growing interest beyond Europe, the next phase is about scaling production and securing the capital to support it.

      Most of the world’s organic waste is wet. Food scraps, sewage and factory by products are abundant, yet difficult and expensive to convert into energy because traditional systems rely on drying and combustion.

      Atsushi Alex Mazawa, Co-Founder and CEO of Rhinoflux Inc., explains how his team is changing that equation with an electrochemical, liquid-based technology that operates more like a battery than a furnace. Biomass charges a specially designed liquid, electricity is discharged, and up to 2,000 kilowatt-hours of power can be generated from a single ton of typical wet waste—without the costly drying step.

      The process also delivers high-purity biogenic CO₂, originally captured from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. That CO₂ can be reused in applications such as carbonated beverages, dry ice and chemical production, unlocking environmental and commercial value at the same time.
