The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., has announced the implementation of the Philippine electronic-Visa (e-Visa) system for residents of the United States and specified Caribbean countries and territories, starting 10 August 2026.1
WHY THIS MATTERS
For global mobility teams, human resources leaders, travel managers, and payroll or assignment coordinators, the e-Visa system may streamline pre-travel processes for eligible residents in the covered jurisdictions by allowing online visa applications and remote access to approved e-Visas. Mobile employees and business travelers may be affected by new administrative requirements, including online application through the official e-Visa website, payment of applicable e-Visa fees by direct bank transfer, and completion of the Philippine e-Travel registration only after the e-Visa has been issued and within 72 hours before departure. The advisory also confirms that e-Visas are not valid for conversion to other visa types and that the authorized period of stay is not extendable, which is particularly relevant for travelers whose purpose may shift from tourism or temporary visits to studies, employment, or other non-tourism activities.

- Effective date: The implementation started on 10 August 2026.
- Online application and eligibility check: Eligible residents intending to enter the Philippines for temporary visits may lodge their e-Visa application online and/or check eligibility through the official website, evisa.gov.ph.
- Payment method: The advisory states that corresponding e-Visa fees may be paid securely through direct bank transfer.
- Digital or printed presentation: Once issued by the Philippine Embassy, approved e-Visas may be accessed remotely through personal computers, laptops, and mobile devices, and may be presented in digital or printed format. The e-Visa will no longer be affixed to passports.
- e-Travel registration requirement: Holders of Philippine e-Visas are required to complete the online Philippine e-Travel registration form at https://etravel.gov.ph only after the embassy has issued the e-Visa and within 72 hours before departure.
- Restrictions on use: Philippine e-Visas are not valid for conversion to other visa types, and the authorized period of stay is not extendable.
- Non-tourism purposes: Foreign nationals intending to visit the Philippines for studies, employment, or other non-tourism purposes are advised to apply for a regular visa sticker at the Philippine Embassy or the nearest Philippine Consulate in the United States.
KPMG INSIGHTS
The advisory indicates a shift toward a digital visa process for eligible temporary visitors in the covered jurisdictions. For employers, this may support more efficient coordination of short-term travel to the Philippines, but it also creates a need for clear internal guidance on eligibility, timing, document presentation, and the e-Travel registration sequence. The restriction that e-Visas cannot be converted and that the authorized stay is not extendable may be particularly important when travel plans are uncertain or when an employee’s purpose of travel could move beyond a temporary visit.
In light of the changes, organizations and entities might wish to consider the following:
- Organizations could review travel approval workflows for employees and assignees traveling to the Philippines from the covered jurisdictions.
- Organizations could remind travelers to complete the Philippine e-Travel registration only after e-Visa issuance and within 72 hours before departure.
- Companies could confirm whether the traveler is eligible for an e-Visa, whether the trip purpose is limited to a temporary visit, and whether a regular visa sticker is required for studies, employment, or other non-tourism purposes.
