Derek is an experienced Chartered Accountant and Registered Auditor with over 17 years in the financial services industry, specializing in audit and advisory services for the insurance sector. He has a proven track record in managing large audits, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering projects.
Derek’s current audit client portfolio includes three of the ten largest life insurers in South Africa and includes one of the five largest life insurers. His portfolio covers the range of life insurance products including individual life, employee benefits, group schemes, funeral and investment business; as well as specialist bancassurance businesses, cell insurers and cell owners.
Previous audit experience includes direct, intermediated and niche non-life insurance, life reassurance, property and casualty reinsurance, underwriting management agencies, medical schemes, insurance aggregators and group service companies. Derek has also been involved in various advisory engagements related to insurance, leading some and acting as an insurance subject matter expert on others.
