KPMG's Finance Advisory team ran their 2025 annual public sector finance reporting seminar which helps to prepare public sector finance professionals for annual financial reporting, are on track for implementing new reporting standards applicable in future years and to provide insights into the future direction of finance and reporting in the public sector.
The 2025 seminar covered the following topics:
- An update on financial reporting, including relevant new and revised standards and interpretations.
- An update on global and local ESG developments, with an overview of state-by-state requirements and practical considerations for public sector entities.
- A discussion on AI in Finance, including opportunities and risks, example use cases, and actions CFOs and finance teams in the public sector can take now to leverage this technology.

- global ESG developments, including the latest on the International Sustainability Standards Board, climate-related implications for disclosures under current frameworks, and potential new frameworks for climate reporting in the public sector.
- financial stewardship including risks and considerations in the current fiscal climate, and what actions CFOs and finance teams in the public sector should be taking.

In the Government context, this will be most commonly required to support outcomes-based budgeting and reporting.
