Rapid change and increased regulatory scrutiny present compliance challenges for telecommunications leaders. Following the competition of a compliance uplift program, Telstra appointed KPMG to help sustain its compliance maturity through Applied AI technologies.
Built on KPMG Workbench – a flexible platform enabling interoperable, agent to agent communications – our AI-driven compliance solution is helping Telstra simplify regulations, predict risks and optimise compliance processes.

What was needed
Telstra had recently completed a compliance uplift program to ensure an acceptable level of maturity. However, in an environment of constant change and increasing scrutiny from regulators, the challenge is to sustain compliance over the long term without increasing head count or external cost.
With the emergence of Applied AI technologies, there is opportunity to sustain Telstra’s compliance maturity at a scale and efficiency not previously possible by:
- Predicting downstream impacts to compliance performance due to changes, such as regulatory, process, technological or organisational change, that are currently not clearly understood or addressed.
- Giving board and executive leadership confidence in their coverage of obligations and the quality of their controls through an AI-driven health check.
- Significantly improving quality and efficiency across the compliance lifecycle.
What we did
Our AI-driven compliance solution, built on KPMG Workbench, addresses recurring regulatory themes and compliance challenges, offering a unique, effective response to improving compliance maturity and sustainment.
Incorporating our regulatory risk and compliance better practices, it had been trained on telecommunications sector regulations and Telstra-specific nuances. We are deploying the solution across all of Telstra’s obligation areas, with users from all parts of Telstra having a compliance co-pilot to support them across the compliance lifecycle.
