Diversity is part of KPMG’s history, going back more than 90 years. That’s when Ethel Watts became the first woman to qualify as a chartered accountant by examination with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). One of KPMG's founding leaders, Sir William Peat (the P in KPMG), played a crucial role in enabling women to enter into the profession, and his work laid the foundation for Ethel who later went on to work under his son, Sir Harry Peat.

Ethel’s pioneering spirit is alive and well today. We cultivate a sense of belonging for all, regardless of gender identity and expression, sex, race and ethnic background, disability, religion, beliefs or age. It’s this inclusiveness that fosters our collaborative nature and fuels our success in over 150 countries.

We are proud of our diversity at KPMG in Bermuda. Based on gender diversity, 49% of our staff are women. When considering client facing staff as a group, 40% are women and we have seen a consistent increase in those statistics. Culturally, our firm has representation from over 25 different countries. Throughout the year we have a number of initiatives from International Women’s Day to Heritage Month to Pride to support an open culture. We work hard to ensure our people can bring their whole self to work.
