Thomas is a Partner at KPMG in Bermuda and has more than 15 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, providing audit and advisory services to SEC registrants as well as listed and non‑listed clients. He is committed to making KPMG the most trusted professional services firm and focuses on delivering high‑quality audits by leveraging the strength of the KPMG global network.
Thomas has worked with a broad range of global and regional insurers and reinsurers across the non‑life and life sectors. His experience includes leading group audits and financial statement reviews under IFRS and local GAAP for commercial insurance companies and their international branches. He has also directed audits of life reinsurance entities operating within the annuity and pension risk transfer industries. In addition, he has held leadership roles on group audits of SEC registrants and large private companies in the US, UK, Singapore, and Germany. He has extensive experience in financial reporting and accounting matters related to complex insurance arrangements, business combinations, and consolidation, and he has significant familiarity with SEC reporting, SOX, US GAAP, IFRS, and UK GAAP.
His recent engagements include leading a multi‑territorial European group audit that required coordinating complex inter‑office arrangements to ensure a seamless delivery for the group entity. Thomas also led the audit delivery for IFRS 17 life reinsurance entities, working closely with actuarial specialists to assess key assumptions for both existing and new business, as well as evaluating the IFRS 17 accounting treatments and associated disclosures. He also led the first‑year IFRS 17 audit implementation for a general insurer, including the audit of the opening balance sheet and transitional adjustments, and provided introductory training to ensure a shared understanding of the reporting requirements and a clear audit plan in a complex accounting area. Thomas has supported clients in remediating significant control deficiencies by providing independent challenge to mitigation plans to ensure that appropriate expectations were set and achieved.
Before joining KPMG in Bermuda, Thomas played a key role in redesigning the audit delivery model for insurance audits at KPMG UK. This included developing and implementing new automated audit tools, improving staff utilisation, and enhancing the delivery of the firm’s audit quality strategy.
