Associate, Tax Law

KPMG in Canada

Rob is an associate with KPMG Law LLP and practices out of the Toronto office with a focus on indirect taxes (i.e. the GST/HST, QST, Provincial Sales Taxes and Retail Sales Taxes) in Canada. While practicing at KPMG, Rob has gained broad experience assisting some of the worlds largest multinational companies and financial institutions with their compliance obligations, including resolving tax disputes with the various revenue authorities in Canada (i.e. the Canada Revenue Agency, Revenue Quebec and the various Provincial Ministries of Finance). Rob is currently a part-time professor of law in the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Common Law, where he teaches negotiation and dispute resolution skills to second and third year law students. Rob always strives to negotiate and resolve his clients disputes favorably at both the lowest level and cost possible.

Prior to joining KPMG Law, Rob articled and worked as a tax litigation counsel with the Department of Justice’s Tax Services Portfolio and worked at the Canada Revenue Agency in various roles. In law school, Rob participated in the Donald G.H. Bowman Tax Moot and in his final year of law school won first place in a national negotiation competition.

Rob has acquired a broad range of experience working with non-resident multinational corporations and focuses his practice on advising non-resident clients on their cross border indirect tax obligations in Canada. Rob is also involved in resolving high value tax disputes and objections with Canadian revenue authorities (including voluntary disclosures).

During his spare time Rob enjoys spending time with his family, serves part-time as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve and volunteers his time as a board member to an organization that helps military veterans find meaningful work in the civilian work force upon release from the military.
