Generative AI is changing the way Canadians work, collaborate, and innovate. As organizations move beyond experimentation, AI is becoming a routine part of daily business – reshaping workflows, unlocking new possibilities, and prompting important conversations about skills, trust, and the future of work.

In August 2025, we conducted a survey among Canadian adults and found that more than half (51%) are now using generative AI at work, with daily and weekly usage continuing to rise. Most users (79%) report meaningful productivity gains, and the majority (54%) report saving between 1-5 hours per week. Despite these advances, a significant skills gap persists: 83% of employees want or need to upskill themselves to learn how to use generative AI tools more effectively, and less than half (48%) feel their organizations provide adequate support.

Additionally, while a majority (93%) of Canadian business leaders say their organizations are using generative AI, only two percent say their organizations are seeing a return on their AI investments.

KPMG in Canada’s latest Generative AI Adoption Index is your guide to understanding how these technologies are being embraced across the country, what’s driving change, and where the opportunities and challenges lie for both employers and employees.
