We create trust in the financial markets and contribute to sustainable development in society. With our global sustainability programme "Our Impact Plan", we take this responsibility into account and present our activities transparently. The aim is to create long-term added value for our company, our employees, customers and our most important stakeholders. Our current sustainability report "Our Impact Report 2022" shows the specific measures we are using to achieve this.
Foreword
Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues,
Our society is once again being put to the test: The current geopolitical situation shows just how fragile the foundations of peace and security are, as well as our prosperity in Europe. The war in Ukraine and its effects are hitting Germany's economy and the European economic area as the second major shock after the Covid-19 pandemic. Rising inflation, volatile supply chains and much more pose new challenges for our customers and, not least, for ourselves.
We support our customers in dealing with these uncertainties and changes and successfully mastering challenges. Our values form the foundation for our daily actions.
This shows once again the multifaceted responsibility we bear as a company. In addition to creating trust in the financial markets through our services, this also includes social aspects in our actions, in line with ESG: Environment, Social and Governance. To take this responsibility into account and create transparency about our activities, the international KPMG network has set up Our Impact Plan as a global sustainability programme.
Our Impact Plan sets out how KPMG makes an effective contribution to sustainable development in society across all member firms. We consider four areas of action to be essential: Planet, People, Prosperity and Governance. In this Our Impact Report from KPMG in Germany, we show the specific measures we are taking to fulfil our voluntary commitment in these areas of action. In doing so, we always pursue the goal of creating long-term added value for our company, our employees, customers and our most important stakeholders.
In the 2022 financial year, we made further progress in the four areas of action mentioned, for example with the introduction of an internal CO2 price as part of our environmental programme or through the new ESG Experts training course, which we developed for our employees in cooperation with EBS University. Details on all further developments can be found in the relevant sections of our report.
The 2022 financial year was characterised by many new challenges and new tasks, which we mastered very well. We can therefore look back on a very good year with strong business development and growth of 9.1 per cent. We have all contributed to this success together - with great commitment, respectful cooperation, flexibility and the joy of shaping the future. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all our employees.
Nevertheless, there is still a great deal more to do on the road to a sustainable future, to which we at KPMG want to make a decisive contribution. We will therefore continue to work intensively on effective measures and report on them transparently.

About this report
With the Our Impact Report, we have been aligning our sustainability reporting with the "Principles of Stakeholder Capitalism" standard of the World Economic Forum (WEF IBC Metrics) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) since 2021. Detailed information on this can be found in the Our Impact Report Index.
The information and data in this year's report was collected by our specialist departments and business units using representative methods and carefully quality-assured. The Our Impact Report has not been externally audited.
The reporting period is 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022. In order to present the information on KPMG's sustainability activities as comprehensively as possible, activities beyond the 2022 financial year that were available by the editorial deadline (31 January 2023) were also included.
As with the employee-related key figures, the information in the report generally relates to the HGB consolidated financial statements of KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft with its three fully consolidated domestic Group companies as at 30 September 2022 (KPMG). In addition, key figures are included that are allocated to "KPMG in Germany". These key figures include KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (KPMG Law), which is not consolidated in the KPMG Group. KPMG Law is associated with KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft and is therefore closely linked to the global KPMG organisation of independent member firms.
Further information on the Planet and People action areas can be found in the appendix to this report. Key figures for KPMG and KPMG Law are largely shown separately.
