Organisations face a growing demand for clear and transparent communication on their ESG agenda. Stakeholders – including investors, customers,  employees and increasingly regulators – all want to understand the purpose and values of the businesses they affiliate with.

This demand has seen a rapid increase in the focus on non-financial information. It has resulted in a vast range of ESG reports, targets, frameworks and regulations being introduced, which can vary by business location, sector, size and complexity.

We have designed a range of solutions to best enable our clients to flourish.

      Our ESG services

      ESG Assurance

Assurance plays an important role in building trust. Following a number of greenwashing accustations and negative press, Boards and executives are looking to ensure that what they publish is correct, especially when the consequences of getting it wrong are so high. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to ESG Assurance, but this is where we can help. Our ESG Assurance expoerts offer the following services:

      • KPMG-led Workshops: These provide an overview of ESG Assurance and the current reporting landscape, including common reporting frameworks. Vitally, they highlight what you need to do to get ready for assurance.
      • Agreed Upon Procedure (AUP) Private Reports: A detailed report of factual findings, presenting results of specific testing procedures we have undertaken.
      • External Assurance Opinions: KPMG provides formalised opinions on reported ESG metrics and disclosures.

      ESG Reporting

ESG reporting frameworks and regulations are becoming more prevalent and these can be complicated to navigate. For many island businesses, the skills and experience are simply not there yet, and it can involve many moving parts. We work with clients to prepare their reporting and create engaging ESG communications.

      Decarbonisation, Climate & Nature

Many organisations are making commitments to reduce their impact on the planet. Data complexities can mean that understanding your impact, especially on our islands, can be difficult. KPMG has invested in environmental experts, technology and data to make this easier for clients. This means you can focus on making real tangible adjustments to your business models, effect real change and meet the expectations of your stakeholders.

      ESG Strategy, Transformation & Implementation

Whether you have just begun your ESG journey, or are ready to move to the next level, ESG should be at the heart of everything you do. An ESG strategy should address the needs of all stakeholders of an organisation. Anything less than a fully integrated and robust ESG strategy will fail to meet stakeholders' increasingly high expectations. Our dedicated local sustainability teams across our islands have many years experience in this field, bringing you real insight and pragmatic solutions to accelerate your journey.

      ESG Tax Services

As a social issue, how much tax you pay is often viewed as a measure of your financial contribution to the communities in which you operate. The role of tax in your ESG journey is much broader than just your tax footprint. With the right business partnering in place, tax can be a key enabler across all your ESG workstreams. Tax transparency is only expected to increase as the OECD's positioning on minimum rates of corporation tax are adopted.

      ESG Values & Deals

ESG can increase the value of an organisation. If you are looking to sell a business and have not yet embedded ESG, its value may be left on the table. If you are buying, ensuring the identification of value-creating opportunities is critical to pricing and returns. Equally, ensuring there are no value-eroding surprises in the business - such as greenwashing or poor labour practices - is key to protecting your investment. Our due diligence and value creation services are designed with this in mind.

      Innovation Finance & Sustainable Finance

We assist organisations and corporates with tapping into the growing pools of debt and equity capital that provide financial return in addition to positive impact. Our islands require financing to meet a number of sustainability challenges, such as enhancing climate resiliency, or addressing social housing. We support organisations with assessing the feasibility of sustainable finance options, the design and structuring of deals, the alignment with leading frameworks (such as green and blue bond principles), and ongoing impact monitoring and reporting, as well as evaluation of effectiveness.

      Managed Services

The role of CSOs and ESG Teams have been gaining prominence and will only become increasingly commonplace. The CSO is emerging as the "sense-maker in chief". They are asked to interpret change and consider the strategic consequences for their firm. They are tasked with influencing, communicating and cutting through organisational complexity to enable their firm to deliver on ESG commitments.

Many companies in our islands are not large enough to justify their own full-time CSO or ESG Team, nor continued training and development. KPMG has created a solution for this - providing current insight and affordable ESG ambassadors within your organisation.

      Philanthropy & Community Investment

The relationship between private wealth, philanthropy and society is as complex and personal as it is rewarding. Our experienced team offers strategic and operational end-to-end services to support the development and execution of your bespoke philanthropic approach. We help establish robust governance and management processes, along with the opportunity to source potential grantee organisations, and convene with like-minded organisations and individuals. We can also digitise processes to enhance real-time monitoring and response by your organisation.
