Maria B Almqvist has a long history with KPMG, beginning her career in the Copenhagen office. After a brief period with other companies, she returned to KPMG’s Stockholm office in 2019. Throughout her career, Maria has primarily focused on operational transformation, with special emphasis on customer journeys. Today, she works within KPMG’s Sustainability Advisory team, serving both as a senior consultant and a team leader.
Natural progress
- I have always been an outdoorsy person and love exploring new countries, nature and meeting people. The world is a beautiful place, and we must take care of it. Since becoming a mother, I have a newfound drive to contribute to a better world for children to grow up in. So, broadening my role to encompass sustainability advisory felt like a natural move for me. I’m grateful to work at KPMG, where opportunities like this can become a reality.
Structure is key in what I do
My background in digital transformation and creating new operational models is valuable when working with sustainability, especially when it comes to CSRD implementations. With many years of experience delivering complex operational projects, I now make my mark by driving structured projects that efficiently move clients forward.
My favorite work
I am at my best when sustainability is integrated into an operational model. I enjoy creating a vision together with the client and identifying necessary changes. We assess how it impacts the organization, what processes and system support are needed for everyone to do a good job and make room for improvements over time. It’s about implementing a dynamic steering model for optimal sustainability performance.
Making a mark as a leader
– Beyond working with sustainability projects, I am also team lead for our sustainability advisory team of more than 20 colleagues. It’s rewarding to put my ten years with the company to good use by establishing new coaching structures and making sure that everyone on the team has what they need to perform at their very best. It’s fulfilling to know that I am not only making a mark as a consultant, I make a difference as a leader too.
