      A better world

How do we build a better world through the choices we make?

Futuresphere explores the opportunities and risks of a tech-enabled future, and what organisations and governments must do to ensure all Australians benefit.

      Future perspectives:

      • Australia faces a critical nursing shortage by 2030, driven by an ageing population and declining workforce numbers.
      • Despite increased connectivity, isolation is growing, and it’s costing Australia:
        • AU$2.7 billion annually in healthcare
        • AU$60 billion in mental health-related issues.
      • AI-powered societies put more demand on water and power assets, placing pressure on infrastructure and climate commitments.
      • Without action, Australia risks blackouts, failing systems and soaring energy costs.

      Intelligent performance

What happens when intelligent performance becomes the measure of human potential?

Intelligent performance explores how AI, automation and agentic technologies can help organisations move beyond efficiency gains to build adaptive, intelligent ecosystems.

      AI agents are reshaping work:

      • 33% of enterprise software apps will feature agents by 2028.
      • The agentic AI market is forecast to grow from US$5.4 billion in 2024 to US$236 billion by 2034.
      • AI agents will shift human roles from execution to oversight, redefining the value and purpose of work.
      • AI and quantum computing are expected to improve safety, reducing costs and enabling real-time optimisation in construction and asset management.

Explore Futuresphere 2025 to see how emerging technologies and AI copilots are redefining traditional work models with systems that learn, adapt and collaborate across domains.

      Trusted forever

What does trust look like in an AI future, and how do we build it to last?

As innovation accelerates, organisations must earn and maintain trust to deliver the full value of emerging technologies.

      Why trust matters:

      • 47 million Australian accounts were compromised in 2024.
      • 64% of Australians are concerned about losing societal control as AI becomes more widespread.
      • 75% worry about their digital identity being misused or stolen.

Read more in Futuresphere 2025 to understand the foundations of trust in a digital future: what it means, how to achieve it, and why it matters in an era of accelerating misinformation and AI ethics challenges.

      Frontier today

How do we lead with purpose at the frontier of tomorrow’s technologies?

Go beyond generative AI into the next radical technologies—from quantum computing to biotechnology.

      Key considerations:

      • Whether organisations pursue first-mover advantage or adopt a fast-follower strategy, each path carries distinct risks and rewards.
      • As future technologies mature, robust governance frameworks will be essential to ensure ethical use and public trust.
      • The scale of change will require organisations to rethink supply chains, business models, and product development. In today’s frontier, concrete self-heals and quantum computing accelerates drug discovery.

      Case studies:
      from vision to value

KPMG has worked closely with an energy client in setting up their integrated AI strategy, which has seen AI agents manage numerous customer applications for EV and solar installations.

This has reduced wait times and accelerated approvals for renewable energy assets, giving their consumers greater choice and control over how they use and receive energy from the grid.

KPMG worked with a leading multinational bank to streamline its customer onboarding quality assurance process.

By feeding policy requirements into an agentic AI system, thousands of applications were reviewed overnight, saving compliance costs and freeing staff to focus on higher-priority work.

KPMG Australia has developed a Trusted AI framework which sets out our approach to designing, building, deploying, and using AI solutions, both internally and for clients. In 2024, KPMG Australia became certified under ISO 42001.

Certification of KPMG Australia’s AI management system is a key pillar of KPMG’s AI strategy, which emphasises both governance and implementation to support the development of AI solutions.
