Business Intelligence (BI) describes the ability of an organization to generate deeper business insights from data and information and thus make better decisions.

To this end, we offer our customers a range of data-based BI solutions.

More than half of purchases made in stationary retail stores are still paid for with cash - a gateway for manipulation attempts by employees. We have developed a solution that automatically checks the stored pseudonymized data, uses intelligent algorithms and scenario-based analyses to identify manipulation and significantly and sustainably reduce losses. The tool also helps to identify training needs.

Cash payments have declined in Germany since the coronavirus pandemic, but they are still popular. Around 39% of retail sales were generated with cash in 2021. However, the resulting high levels of cash in circulation repeatedly lead to manipulation attempts by employees, as retailers complain. The low margins, particularly in food retail, are thus squeezed even further.

Classic manipulation attempts include empties processing, manual price corrections and returns. According to retail experts, the damage caused by employees amounts to a good 810 million euros (source: EHI study Inventory Differences 2022). On average, the German retail sector operates with a loss level of around 0.5% of net sales.

To remedy this, KPMG has developed intelligent algorithms to identify and significantly and sustainably reduce losses using scenario-based analyses. To do this, we use data from cash register journals, merchandise management and cash logistics, which we link together. An existing extensive library of various analysis scenarios is enriched by cases from the practical experience of the user community and is thus constantly evolving.

The reduction or prevention of losses due to fraud, theft or organizational deficits is ensured by an automated check of the stored pseudonymized data. All relevant data protection regulations are complied with.

Our solution is highly effective and efficient, as it detects a wide range of irregularities and drastically accelerates the work processes of branch audits. The tool also helps to identify training needs and relieves store management of routine tasks. Thanks to the simple and fast software implementation in existing infrastructures and high detection rates, our solution pays for itself very quickly.

The factors influencing the attractiveness of a location are becoming increasingly complex, making it ever more important to fully understand the individual market environment. With geoanalysis, we offer an innovative solution that incorporates macro- and microeconomic factors, socio-demographic data, infrastructure features as well as competitive and forecasting data. In this way, strong and weak regions can be identified and customer target groups defined. The insights gained support decision-makers in structuring the stationary store portfolio, for example.

From investment in individual branches of a retailer or service provider to urban or regional development - up to now, location planning has often been based on a certain degree of gut feeling. However, in times of continuously increasing competition, the complexity of factors influencing the attractiveness of a location is also increasing and it is becoming more and more important to fully understand the individual market environment. In addition, customer needs are changing and it is becoming increasingly difficult to gain an overview of the structural conditions at individual locations. With geoanalysis, we have developed a data-based solution to meet these challenges. Our data basis is based on diversity, quality and interdisciplinary partnerships. We use internal as well as public and commercial data points to measure and simulate regional location attractiveness.

But how does a retailer, for example, make the right choice of location? How does KPMG help to better understand the competition and customer situation? To answer these and other questions, geoanalysis uses macro- and microeconomic factors. The white spot and potential analysis is an example of how strong and weak regions can be identified and customer target groups defined. This is a combination of analyses that includes not only socio-demographic data and infrastructure features but also competition and forecast data. By representing a region as a digital miniature world, agglomeration patterns can be identified and simulated. From this, a better understanding of customer behavior in the region can be derived. The insights gained support decision-makers when it comes to structuring the stationary store portfolio, for example.

The special feature of KPMG's geoanalysis is the targeted, sectoral focus of the analyses it contains and its approach as a managed service, which makes the necessary but often laborious process of data maintenance easier for our clients or, if requested, takes it off their hands completely. Thanks to the targeted consolidation of the data prepared by KPMG, fed with internal company key figures from different areas, geoanalysis now has a very broad spectrum of possible applications. We would be happy to work with you to develop an individual solution so that you too can benefit from the innovative analysis and simulation possibilities of geoanalysis.

With the Reporting Factory, we offer you the opportunity to design the reporting process holistically and efficiently and to provide analyses within the shortest possible time in order to meet the requirements of both the business and IT departments.

The basis for operating a robust and reliable application is ensuring the transparency and reliability of the data used. This results in high demands on the maintenance, performance and scalability of a platform. With the help of a Scrum-based process and agile project management methods, new and further developments as well as maintenance can be implemented in a structured and efficient manner.

The development and maintenance process of a Reporting Factory in conjunction with a Center of Excellence (CoE) is characterized by a clear definition of tasks and responsibilities. The process includes efficient requirements management and flexible and reliable development work, which is controlled by a service manager with the help of internal quality assurance. The CoE or business users selected by the CoE then test the development in the test environment. This is followed by development acceptance and release into the production system.
