    Our communities

    How we're supporting our communities to prosper.

    Our vision is to help empower and drive opportunity in disadvantaged communities across the UK. So, where you’re from, or your background, doesn’t dictate your life chances.

    Our commitments

    We’ve committed to give one million young people the opportunity to build their skills by 2030.
    We’re committed to raising £1.5m for FareShare by September 2027 and will also support them with pro bono work.

    Our community strategy

    We lead community projects with purpose to strengthen our society, and work collaboratively with schools, charities, community groups and other businesses to ensure we create a lasting impact, for better. Our key areas of focus are:

    • Social mobility in the community: creating opportunities for people who might not otherwise have them. Our community work harnesses the power of education; recognising that numeracy, literacy and lifelong learning are the building blocks for social mobility.
    • Strategic philanthropy, volunteering and pro bono: tackling disadvantage through strategic charity partnerships, funding and expertise.

    Through our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability strategy, we aim to champion social mobility; safeguard our environment and raise funds for vital causes. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made alongside our partners and remain dedicated to continuous improvement. Together, we can play our part in creating a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future for all.

    How we’re progressing against our targets:

    Education & Skills Through Opening Doors to Opportunities, we will give one million young people the opportunity to develop their skills by 2030.

    Since June 2023, we’ve welcomed thousands of students into our offices, all of whom have been from schools in areas of low social mobility. We recognise the value of students experiencing different types of working environments and as such, have been joining forces with organisations who share our ambition on social mobility. Through shared office visits, students visit both KPMG and other businesses from different sectors - including legal, travel, engineering, infrastructure and many more. Being able to compare and contrast different businesses and sectors will allow young people to experience the world of work and make informed decisions about their futures. young people can make informed decisions about their future.

    Working in collaboration with the Careers and Enterprise Company and others, our Opening Doors to Opportunities project:

    • Creates business opportunities with schools
    • Inspires and engages students
    • Provides regular, high quality workplace encounters tailored to different school years
    • Supports schools with travel costs to remove barriers to access

    In 2024, we were proud to support over 332,257 young people through a range of activities including in-office visits, school workshops, and campaign activities through strategic partnerships with National Numeracy and the National Literacy Trust.

    Education & Skills Our National Charity Partnership with Marie Curie ran from November 2021 to September 2024

    We’re really proud that over the course of our three-year partnership with Marie Curie, we exceeded our commitment to raise £1m for the charity, by providing £2.6m worth of support in total, including £1.868m in fundraising and donations, as well as over £661,000 worth of pro bono.*

    In October 2024, we launched our new National Charity Partnership with FareShare. FairShare is the UK’s largest charity tackling the environmental problem of food waste for social good. They save food which would otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to local communities through a network of 35 regional sites across the UK.

    FareShare provides surplus food to over 8,000 charities and community groups, who transform this food into parcels and meals to feed nearly 1 million people. These organisations also offer holistic support services aimed at addressing the causes of food poverty, helping people overcome mental health challenges, domestic abuse situations, unemployment and more.

    For every £1 we raise through our partnership, FareShare will be able to redistribute the equivalent of five meals to those who need it most. Our new National Charity Partnership with FareShare launched in October 2024 and will run until September 2027, over which time we aim to provide them with £2m worth of support including fundraising, volunteering, through leadership and pro bono.

    *In addition to fundraising, donations and pro bono support, the value of total support provided to Marie Curie includes additional provision, such as the value of in-kind contributions.
