The Audit Trainee Programme is a 2-year programme that trains you to become a skilled auditor. As an audit trainee, you will work full-time while studying part-time.

As a trainee at KPMG, you will be part of one of the largest audit firms in the world. You will quickly build a strong network that you can benefit from throughout your career. You can look forward to kickstarting your career in an inspiring, young, and dynamic work environment.

The trainee programme includes an onboarding trip and a variety of ongoing training and learning opportunities that give you the foundation to begin your audit career successfully. Along the way, you will learn about the work of an auditor, how we operate at KPMG, and get to know many new colleagues.

      Why choose audit?

We see the auditor as a detective in the world of numbers, because as an auditor, you uncover mistakes others overlook. You will become a skilled problem-solver, communicator, and analyst. Auditing is not just about numbers - it’s also about understanding companies from the inside and meeting the people who are the company. You can look forward to exciting and challenging work while building your theoretical foundation through your studies and our internal training.

On top of that, you’ll be part of a unique community which you already now can look forward to joining! We regularly gather across departments for various events from Friday bars, our annual Company Day, and Christmas parties to casual chats at the coffee machine or lunch buffet.

See our open positions below and become part of the team!

      Your onboarding

Before you officially start, we invite all our new trainees to our headquarter for a pre-summer gathering, where you’ll meet fellow trainees starting at the same time as you as well as current trainees who will share their experiences. This is a great opportunity to get to know your new colleagues and prepare for the official start after the summer.

Our trainee programme always begins on September 1.

Once you start, you and the other new trainees will go on an onboarding trip to an international destination – could be the Netherlands. This trip will help you build a strong network and a solid foundation for your work as an auditor at KPMG. You’ll learn how we work, the audit foundation, and take part in fun teambuilding activities.

Your learning doesn’t stop there - in fact, we believe it never stops. When you return, you can expect continuous training and education - both on-the-job and through internal courses with the other trainees. Examples include Audit Foundation, Basic Bookkeeping, Excel Excellence, and Financial Statements.

      We've got your back!

You’ll be assigned both a Koach (not a typo - this is KPMG’s term for a performance manager) and a mentor to guide you and help you develop in the direction you dream of.

Your mentor will support you during your first year, offering on-the-job training and feedback. They will be your go-to for professional and social guidance and ensuring you’re well-prepared to become a skilled auditor.

Your Koach will help you set and achieve your career goals, supporting you in the long term so you can reach your full potential.

      Your responsibilities

You can look forward to a steep learning curve and working within areas such as:

      • Understanding companies, their products, markets, financial results, and strategies.
      • Assisting companies with their annual reports, accounting, tax, bookkeeping, VAT, and more.
      • Reviewing and verifying company accounts.

You will always work in teams, ensuring you are never alone on an assignment and always have access to guidance. At KPMG, we go beyond traditional auditing techniques - we focus on new technologies and the digitalization of audit processes.

We believe in leveraging AI and using data and analytics tools to make auditing more modern and relevant for today’s society. You’ll have the chance to work with these new technologies and help shape the audit of the future.

      Your education path and career

We make sure you have the tools you need to become a skilled auditor - through both internal and external training, as well as plenty of practical experience in your day-to-day work as a trainee.

Alongside our internal training, you will be enrolled in a part-time education - either HD or cand.merc.aud - where you’ll learn the core and most important elements of accounting, tax, and auditing. We cover your tuition fees and provide ongoing support and guidance throughout your education and career at KPMG – also after you complete your trainee programme.

What you have to study depends on your school/educational background:

      • HD1 and HD2

If you have completed a high school education, you will study HD1 and HD2 while working as a trainee.

      • HD2

If you have studied financial controller or a financial economy degree, you will study HD2 while working as a trainee.

      • Cand.merc.aud. as a professional master’s programme

If you have completed a bachelor's degree (e.g., BSc in Economics and Business Administration or Finance Bachelor), you will study cand.merc.aud. while working as a trainee.
