      The challenge

      A key Indian state’s ambition to become a leading hub for AI innovation called for a robust ecosystem that could support startups, scale infrastructure, and build talent. However, the absence of centralised support, limited access to high-performance computing, and fragmented innovation efforts posed significant barriers to growth and adoption of AI across sectors.


      The opportunity

      To accelerate AI innovation through strategic partnerships, infrastructure development, and capacity building, we helped the government organisation launch an AI initiative.  

      KPMG in India’s approach included:
      • Startup acceleration

        Facilitated registration of 130+ AI startups under the Centre of Excellence (CoE)

      • Innovation challenges

        Launched sector-specific AI innovation challenges, attracting over 110 startups

      • Talent development

        Collaborated with five global providers to train 25,000+ professionals in AI, DeepTech, and emerging technologies

      • Infrastructure enablement

        Supported procurement and deployment of 56+ high-performance GPUs

      • Policy advancement

        Introduced Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) incentives to support AI adoption

      • Strategic partnerships

        Drafted multiple MoUs to integrate advanced AI across domains


      The outcome

      A key Indian state has made remarkable strides in strengthening its AI ecosystem through this forward-looking initiative that blends technology, talent, and innovation. Over 130 AI startups have been supported through Centre of Excellence registrations and innovation challenges, fuelling entrepreneurial growth. More than 25,000 professionals have been trained, creating a future-ready workforce in cutting-edge technologies.

      With 56+ high-performance GPUs deployed, scalable and efficient AI model development has become a reality. Multilingual AI services have also enhanced market outreach and improved customer experience. This initiative positions the state as a national frontrunner in AI innovation, driving sustainable growth and digital transformation across sectors.
