With the objective of enabling the systemic embedding of disaster risk reduction (DRR) across all sectors of society, KPMG in India signed a Statement of Cooperation (SoC) with the United Nations Global Education and Training Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR GETI) on 15 December 2025. The Institute is part of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the United Nation's leading agency driving global efforts to strengthen disaster resilience.
“This is a significant step for UNDRR, given KPMG in India’s deep-rooted presence and strong engagement at the state and city-level governments in India. This collaboration enables us to translate global disaster risk reduction frameworks into practical, scalable actions that strengthen resilience in line with the Sendai Framework 2015-2030.” - Mr. Sanjaya Bhatia, Head, UNDRR GETI.
Under the SoC, KPMG in India and UNDRR GETI will develop deep, practice-ready DRR expertise among KPMG professionals through UNDRR certification programmes, support cities to strengthen resilience under the MCR2030 framework, and advise national and state governments on designing and implementing robust disaster risk strategies. The collaboration will also champion the integration of climate change adaptation into mainstream development planning, ensuring resilience is woven into policies and projects from the conception stage itself.
“Through our collaboration with UNDRR, KPMG in India is committed to supporting ongoing government efforts on disaster risk reduction by strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing governance frameworks, and embedding resilience into development planning at the national, state, and city levels.” - Mr. Nilachal Mishra, Partner and Head, Government & Public Services, KPMG in India.
The agreement formalises a program of work that includes capacity building, technical advisory services and multi-stakeholder partnership development, positioning KPMG in India, together with UNDRR GETI, to accelerate DRR initiatives in the country.
“The collaboration with UNDRR, through this Statement of Cooperation, marks the start of a long-term, action-oriented collaboration to translate global frameworks into measurable resilience outcomes on the ground.” - Mr. Sandeep Paidi, Partner and Lead, Human, Health and Social Service (HHSS), Government & Public Services, KPMG in India.
The SoC was signed on behalf of KPMG in India by Mr. Nilachal Mishra, Partner and Head, Government & Public Services, and on behalf of UNDRR GETI by Mr. Sanjaya Bhatia, Head, UNDRR Global Education and Training Institute. This collaboration positions KPMG in India as a strategic contributor to global resilience efforts and delivers tangible career pathways for KPMG professionals to become certified DRR experts. More importantly, it is a meaningful step toward safer, more sustainable and better-prepared communities, turning the Sendai Framework’s ambition into an on-the-ground practice that protects lives, livelihoods and development gains in India.
