Framework for process improvement

    Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®) is a process improvement framework developed and maintained by ISACA. CMMI is a proven set of global best practices that drives business performance through building and benchmarking key capabilities. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organisation.

    CMMI is a framework for process improvement that provides organisations with essential elements of effective processes. It helps organisations to enhance their capabilities to develop and maintain quality products and services.

    The CMMI Institute has been evolving the CMMI model over the years. In 2018 they released CMMI v2.0 for Development, CMMI for Services and CMMI for Supplier Management. On 6 April 2023 ISACA released the latest version of the CMMI model - CMMI Ver 3.0. In addition to the CMMI V2.2 domains: Development, Services, Suppliers, Safety, and Security, ISACA has introduced new domains for Data, People and Virtual.

    As part of its advisory services, KPMG in India offers the following services to help clients embark on their CMMI journey:

    A formal gap analysis of the quality system including both adequacy of documentation and practice implementation vis-à-vis the requirements of the targeted maturity/capability level of the organisation. The results of the gap analysis are used by the organisation to determine their improvement strategy.

    Process reviews focus on the evaluation of defined Quality Management System (QMS) in line with the model requirements and provide inputs to the process champions to define/enhance the processes.

    Implementation reviews focus on the evaluation of process implementation in projects and support functions based on discussions with project teams and department heads.

    The purpose of checkpoint review is to review the overall implementation status and to determine the readiness of organisation towards a benchmark appraisal.

    Benchmark appraisal is conducted as per the guidelines mentioned in Method Definition Document of CMMI Institute Appraisal is conducted by a CMMI Certified Lead Appraiser. The Lead Appraiser from KPMG in India will be assisted by a team of assessors from KPMG in India and the assessed organisation.
